In terms of dramatic late deals like many seen in years gone by, January's transfer deadline day cannot be considered a real classic. Some big deals were done earlier in the window, look no further than Juan Mata to Manchester United or Nemanja Matic to Chelsea. But, of the Premier League's top 10 teams, Chelsea's acquisition of Kurt Zouma was the only major signing on deadline day and the French defender was immediately loaned back to former club Saint-Etienne.
However, despite a seeming lack of frantic deadline day activity, January buys still pushed Premier League spending levels for the season as whole to a record high of £760m.
