Robin van Persie has had to apologise to his Manchester United team mates after his post-match comments on Tuesday night, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Manchester United hitman spoke to Dutch TV after the shock 2-0 loss to Olympiacos, taking the opportunity to complain about teammates running into the areas he was supposed to be in.
Van Persie's comments added controversy to an already humiliating night for the Old Trafford outfit, who must now overturn the deficit to avoid a premature exit from this season's Champions League; their last hope of silverware.
But according to the British newspaper, Van Persie was left 'genuinely shocked' at how self-centred and arrogant his comments made him seem, forcing him to apologise.
The 30-year-old took teammates to once side in training today to insist that he did not mean to sound so critical of them, but was in fact trying to criticise his own performance.
Regardless of what Van Persie thought this morning, his comments has already caused unrest in the Old Trafford dressing room and Javier Hernandez took to his Instagram to slyly respond to the comments.
The Mexican put on the social media site: “Without your teammates you can’t be somebody in football...always be thankful.”
However, the former Arsenal striker was sincere and unequivocal in his apology and the Manchester United players have laid the issue to rest.
