Chelsea are keen to sign highly-rated Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno - and have made a €15m bid for the 21-year-old’s services.
This report comes courtesy of respected
Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio,
who revealed late on Wednesday night that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is
keen to add the Spain international to his squad in time for next
season.
Moreno, who has been
strongly linked with Real Madrid in recent months and is
also on the radar of Manchester United, has enjoyed a wonderful season with Sevilla, who sit fifth in the La Liga table with four matches left to play.
It appears that Mourinho has switched his attentions to Moreno after
reportedly losing the race to sign Southampton and England starlet Luke Shaw, who is poised to join Manchester United for €30m this summer.
Chelsea were confident of signing Shaw, a boyhood Blues’ fan, but a
lucrative contract and the chance to succeed Patrice Evra as the Red
Devils’ first-choice left-back is believed to have convinced the
18-year-old to join the reigning Premier League champions.
That Mourinho is keen to sign Moreno, however, indicates Ashley Cole
will leave the west London outfit at the end of the season. The
33-year-old, who produced a fine display against Atletico Madrid in the
Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday night, is out of
contract this summer and has lost his place in the Blues’ first team to
Cesar Azpilicueta, a right-back by trade.
Chelsea fans: would you be happy with Alberto Moreno? Should
he replace Cole and/or Azpilicueta next season? Have your say below!
