Manchester United could be about to lose one of their best young stars after failing to agree terms with Will Keane, reports the Daily Mail.
The young striker is out of contract in the summer and has yet to
sign a new long-term deal despite the fact Manchester United are keen
for him to remain on the books.
Keane, 21, hit the headlines in 2010 after winning the Jimmy Murphy
Young Player of the Year award, following in the footsteps of Danny
Welbeck and Paul Scholes.
His progress was hampered by a cruciate ligament injury while playing
for England U19s in May 2012. He has since returned but has struggled
to recreate the sharpness he showed prior to the injury.
Unsuccessful loan spells at Wigan and QPR this season have added to
concerns that Keane will fail to reach his potential but Manchester
United coaches are still keen to see him stay on at Old Trafford.
However, Keane has been unable to agree terms with the Red Devils and
is starting to have his head turned by the growing interest in his
services.
One revelation that will be particularly concerning to Manchester
United is that former player Paul Pogba has recommended Keane to
Juventus, who are checking Keane’s progress closely as a result.
Pogba left Manchester United in controversial circumstances back in
2012 and has since become one of the best midfielders in the world.
Juventus scouts asked the Frenchman what he thought of Keane and Pogba
returned a gleaming recommendation.
If Manchester United do end up losing Keane it will be the third
promising youngster that has left Old Trafford in two years. Along with
Pogba was Ravel Morrison, who was sold to West Ham by Sir Alex Ferguson
because of disciplinary issues.
