Arsene Wenger will sign a new deal with Arsenal, and is
planning to splash the cash in order to turn his squad from title
hopefuls to realistic contenders, according to sources.
The Mirror claims that the French boss has
signalled that he will remain at the Emirates past the summer, as he
has outlined a transfer plot to secure some of Europe’s brightest
talents. The report states that Wenger has come to the conclusion that
he needs to strengthen with quality if he is to successfully maintain
parity with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, and
players of Mario Mandzukic’s ilk have been named in connection with
moves to north London.
Despite numerous rumours that Wenger will be moving on to pastures
new this year - a notion that the Gunners boss himself has done little
to quell - the Mirror believes that he has been told he has upwards of
£70million to spend on new additions, and is comfortable in the
knowledge that it should be sufficient to bring his team up to speed
with their Premier League rivals.
Speculation remains high over who Arsenal will look to poach once the
transfer window opens, but the signing of a powerful midfielder is said
to be amongst Wenger’s priorities.
